Kayla's Update 8-8-07
It's been a while since an update. The LAST Chemo treatment is over and Kayla is now at a waiting point. She is in Little Rock nearly everyday getting her labs drawn and checking with her doc. Her blood counts are still not qutie where they need to be so for now she is under "house arrest" just to be on the safe side. They're going up slowly but surely, and she has yet to get sick after this round of treatments. Thank you all so much for everything you've done for Kayla, your thoughts and prayers are all appreciated!

Kayla's Update 7-15-07
Kayla has her last official treatment and is now home. We wait now until her fever starts to go back up and she'll go back for medicine. Things seem to be going very well and she is very happy to be done with the treatments.
On a side note, please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers as well. She had surgery on her hand recently to correct some problems caused by arthritis and carpel tunnel. She's doing well recovering from that, but had a bad fall today while eating out with her Sunday School class. She fell down a flight of stairs that she did not see while going to the restroom at a restaurant in McCrory. She's doing fine, but has broken four of her bones in her foot. She'll be off work for a week at least, and it'll be 8 to 10 weeks before it heals completely. It just seems one thing after another with our family.
Thanks to everyone for your comments and e-mails, we really appreciate it. Until next time...

Kayla's Updates 6-25-07
Well, Kayla is out of the hospital and at home doing just fine. She will go back on Thursday and get a checkup, and assuming all goes well there, it will be only a matter of weeks before she goes back into the hospital for her final treatment.
She did really well with this last treatment, only got a little sick, but they were very quick to catch everything early and treat it fast. June 16th was her Birthday, so she has to spend it in the hospital, but the nurses were really nice to her and some even brought her some really nice gifts, totaling up to $50 a piece. She has been really blessed and hopefully will be done with this whole ordeal in a matter of weeks. Keep her in your prayers, we are almost through this.

Kayla's Update 6-4-2007
Well, Kayla is back at home from her treatment. She was in the hospital for seven days and is now at home until her counts start to drop again. She will go back on Thursday for a checkup or regular doctor's appointment. From that point on, we'll just have to play it by ear and see what happens. Aunt Connie is keeping her under house arrest until she gets through this treatment. We defiantly do not want anything happening to her again, so we are all keeping a close eye on her. Thanks, once again, to everyone who has kept Kayla in your thoughts and prayers, I know they have really helped her. Keep it up, only one more treatment to go after this one, and she'll be good to go. Thanks again everyone, I'll try to keep you updated as I hear something.

Kayla's Update 5-29-2007
Well, I know it has been a while, but there really has not been a lot to report, so I apologize for the long pause in responses. Kayla has tried for the past couple of months to get her treatment, but has been turned away because of various things not being in the "perfect" condition to receive the treatment. Her platelets have been to low, and they waited on here white count to get back to a suitable level.
As of today, she is finally getting to go back into the hospital, but will only get half of the normal treatment because of what happened last time she was there. She will only have one more half after this one and will not have to make any of the treatments up later. With all that said, she is going back to day for another treatment and will only have one left after this one.
Thanks everyone for your continued support for Kayla and the family. I hope this blog will continue to help you be up to day with what is going on. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day, I'll write again as soon as something new comes up.

Kayla's Update 4-19-07
Just wanted to post this e-mail from my mom, it's the latest on Kayla and pretty much says all that I could have said in more words.
Kayla got a clean bone marrow biopsy. Her platelets are still low, so she will go back Monday, April 30 and if they are up, she will go into the hospital for the third treatment. Thank the Lord!! This means there has been no sign of leukemia since the first treatment. The doctor says this is wonderful!!

Kayla's Update 4-2-07
So this one will be pretty short, but informative. Kayla is doing MUCH better. She is out of the hospital, but still in Little Rock. They are planning on her getting to go home sometime in the next day or so. She is still weak and her voice is a little scratchy from that machine, but she is doing very well.
She will go back in 3 weeks for her next treatment, but they have decided to cut it in half so that she doesn't get as strong a dose at once. This only means she'll have 2 extra treatments, but they will not be as strong. It'll be tough on her going back, but she'll be ok. Thanks everyone for all you have done for her and the family.

Kayla's Update 3-23-2007
Well, I figured it is about time for an update. Sorry for the delay in these but we have kind of had a rough week in the Davis family. For those that did not know, my Dad's mom Charline passed away this past Sunday in Jonesboro. She's been battling cancer for about four years and has never been in the hospital for it. This past week, she was getting so week and couldn't eat, so we took her up to see if we could correct that, and apparently things were worse off than we knew. It has been tough on us, but we are making it through, we know for a FACT that she is better off now and in heaven with my grandfather and my Dad's brother. This was even tough on Connie and John because they wanted to be with us during this but also needed to be with Kayla. We have a wonderful family and some amazing friends, we could never be thankful enough for what God has blessed us with.
As for the update; A little rough but reassuring news with Kayla. She has developed Pneumonia and they are trying to fight the infection to get it taken care of. They have put her in intensive care and do have her on a ventilator, but it's not necessarily bad news. She was having a little trouble breathing b/c of the infection, so they put her on the vent to help her relax so that they can successfully beat this. They have found the antibiotic that seems to be working and they plan on keeping her on the vent over the weekend so they can be sure that she doesn't get worse again. They hope to pull her off the vent after this weekend, and then she'll stay in intensive care for another 24 hours so they can monitor her closely.
She is doing OK, and is responsive to people talking to her, but it is rough for her to be on that machine. It's even more rough for Uncle John and Aunt Connie to see her on it, even more so for Kyle. I know everyone has been thinking about them and praying for them, please keep it up, even more so now. It was rough going through the first rounds of chemo when we first heard about this, but to see her on that vent and to have her in that intensive care is hard to see and hard to deal with. They really need your prayers and your encouragement. Thank you all for being such a big help to our family and to Kayla. I'll update again as soon as I get some new news.

Kayla's Update 3-14-07
Well, it has been a while since I've updated anything, and I apologize for that. Kayla is still in her treatments every two weeks or so.
She's currently back in Little Rock recovering from her second round of treatments. The doctor told them that it's pretty much a wait game. She goes to get her treatment and then they wait for her to acquire a fever, in which case, they put her in the hospital to get antibiotics. This second round has been a little rougher on her than the last time, but she's making it. I've been telling her to keep her head up and push on. Thank you to everyone who has written and checked in on her, it really does mean a lot.
I really have nothing else to report, just to keep praying for her, she's got two treatments down and two more to go and then she'll move to six month checkup's. Till next time....

Kayla's Update 2-16-07
Hey guys, I saw Kayla on Wednesday and she's doing great. She's staying in Little Rock, and has been for the past week on doctor's orders. If she starts to run a fever she would be closer to the hospital than being at home. She was expected to run a fever and enter the hospital last Thursday, but did not enter until yesterday. She's doing really well, and her spirits are high.
The plans for her are that she'll have 4 of these preventative treatments, of which she's had one so far. She'll basically be in LR off and on until those treatments are complete. She thinks they'll do another bone marrow biopsy after her 2nd or 3rd treatment. After all these treatments she'll go to a 6 month visit for a little while, and eventually a yearly visit. After 5 years, if there is no trace of the leukemia then she'll be declared cured.
Things are looking great, and it was really good to get to see her for a little while Wednesday. Thanks again to everyone for all your calls, prayers, and thoughts.

Kayla's Update 2-8-07
Spoke with Kayla last night and they are making their way back to Little Rock today to see the doctor. She will not go into the hospital today but will remain there in the city until she starts to get her fever back. Once that happens, they will admit her until that fever either breaks or her counts start to go back up. Kayla and Aunt Connie and Uncle John are staying in housing there that are set up for situations like this. Kayla is doing great, she's in great spirits and is looking forward for all of this to end. Please keep her in your prayers.
On a side note completely off the subject. My wife, Jill, and I have bought our first house in Marion Arkansas. I wasn't sure how many people check this or not, but I wanted to spread that word to all our friends. We are really excited about it and should get to move in next week. Ok, that's it for now, have a great week!

Kayla's Update 2-2-07
Well, I haven't written anything in a while, but I want everyone to know that Kayla is back at UAMS to start her treatments for preventative measures. She'll be there for about a week or so and then will get to go home. She has actually been there all this week, and probably will be home tomorrow. By Next Thursday or so her fever will be back up and she'll have to go back to the hospital to get antibiotics. This will probably be the routine for the next 4 to 6 months or so. Please keep her in your prayers, and if you get a chance, leave her a message here. I'll be sure that she gets them. Thanks everyone

Kayla's Update 1-25-07
Well, not a long update today, but Kayla did go to the doctor today to figure out what the next steps here were. Here were the results:
The bone marrow came out clean, so she has officially been put into remission. She'll go back on Monday for 5 days of Chemo and then will and get to go home. She'll do this 4 or 5 times for preventative measures every two weeks or so. If her bone marrow stays clean for 5 years, she'll be declared cured! Keep her in your prayers, God is taking such great care of her now, and we couldn't be more thankful. Have a good rest of the week and weekend.

Kayla's Update 1-23-07
Well, Kayla has been at home for almost a good week now and is doing just fine. She does have a little head cold, and with that comes weakness, but other than that she's doing good. I talked to her yesterday and she seems to be back to her old self, or as much as she can be.
She will go back on Thursday to see the doctor and possibly start her remediation treatments. This will be where she 'll go back to the hospital for a minimal of two weeks and get a preventative chemo treatment and then be off for two weeks. She's ready to get back and get things started. The sooner she gets the remediation treatments started, the sooner they'll be over. She has been very upbeat and very positive throughout this whole experience, we can't be anything but completely thankful for that. I truly believe that the positive thinking and attitudes have been a huge factor in her getting better.
I know this has been a very draining on John and Connie, so please keep them in your prayers as well as Kayla. Well, that is about all I have, I did want to include something that Kayla wrote for her friends on facebook, so I'll close this out with that. Thanks again to everyone for all you have done for my cousin during all this, I am amazed everyday at the outpouring of love and prayers that everyone has shown. Have a good week, and more updates to come later.

Kayla's Update 1/16/07
Well, only good news to report! Kayla was told this morning that she would get to go home tomorrow!! Things are looking really good! Not a lot of details as of yet, but they still will do the bone marrow biopsy today, and then she'll go home tomorrow.
Everyone is excited that the hospital stay is over for now. She will have to go back next week to find about just what the future holds. She'll have some remediation treatments for the next 4 to 6 months where she'll be in the hospital for 2 weeks and then off for 2. Like I said, not a lot of news to report, but some what little I have is great news!
Thanks again for all of our prayers, I know Kayla has really appreciated them. More to come later!!

Kayla's Update 1-12-07
Good news today, Kayla has been doing much better. They really appreciate all of you calls and prayers, they have been a big help.
She hasn't had a fever since Wednesday afternoon, and her white counts are coming up on their own. If that keeps up, they'll start taking her off of some of the antibiotics that they've had her on. The good thing about that is, it's one step closer to coming home.
The plan is to do another bone marrow on Tuesday, keep praying that it comes out clean, that means there is no cancer in her body. It's a miracle how well things have been going, we thank God every day for taking such great care of her.
For those of you that do not know, they held a benefit for her last night (Thursday) in Hickory Ridge and it was a HUGE success. They (my mom and dad, Cindy & Ricky) said that there were more people in the city hall than they had ever seen. They ended up raising about $18,700 for Kayla. That alone could help pay off her car and her insurance for a year and still have money to put back for school. It is just amazing how wonderful people are in situations like this.
Keep those calls, cards and prayers coming, there is still a lot that needs to happen, but so far, it's looking great. I wanted to post her room phone number again, it's 501-614-2675. Feel free to give them a call and let Kayla know you are praying for her. If you have any other questions, you can also e-mail me by clicking the e-mail button at the bottom of this post.
That's all for now, I hope you all have a great day and a great weekend!

Kayla's Update 1-7-07
Well, we went to see Kayla last night and here's the latest. She wasn't having a very good day and wasn't feeling very well. She slept most of the day and I'm not sure that she got up and walked any. They did give her some blood, which seemed to make her feel better, so we got a chance to laugh and talk some.
As of this morning, they've learned that she has acquired some sort of infection and has been put into isolation. John and Connie have requested that there not be any visitors for the next couple of days due to this recent development. She will be fine, and everything looks to be OK, but they don't want to take any chances. Feel free to give them a call, her room number is 501-614-2675, I know they love getting the phone calls. I'll post more later when I get a few more details, but I wanted everyone to be aware of what was going on this morning.
Feel free to leave Kayla some comments here by clicking on the comments button. You'll have to leaven an anonymous comment, but you can put your name in the comment if you would like. That's just something about this blog. If you have any questions about Kayla or what's going on, feel free to click the e-mail button and send me an e-mail. I'll do my best to get you an answer right away. OK, that's it for now, more to come later.

Kayla's Update 1-5-07
So we thought this would be a good way for everyone to be able to come and check on Kayla and see how things are going. There is very good news for this first post. Kayla's Bone Marrow Biopsy came back clean! They are going to start her on antibiotics and on Thursday, January 11, and will do another Bone Marrow Biopsy. If the second one comes out clean as well, then she could go home that day!! I want to extend a special thanks to everyone keeping her in your prayers, I know she has really felt them and really appreciates them. Your calls, cards, gifts, prayers, have all been greatly appreciated, lets keep it up and look forward to not if Kayla gets to come home, but when.
For those of you wanting to get in touch with Kayla, give her a call in her room. Her direct room number is 501-614-2675. Try calling that first so we can give Kayla's Cell phone a rest.
Also, if you haven't heard, we are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a pair of George Strait tickets. All the money goes to help with doctor bills and various other things that they need. Kayla had tickets to go to this concert on January 13 at the FedEX Forum and we don't want them to go to waste. Take advantage of this great offer and lend a helping hand in a monetary way to Kayla. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask.
Well, that's all for now. I hope that this post makes it easier for everyone to be able to keep an eye on Kayla and to get some updates. Thanks again to everyone for every single bit of kindness you have offered Kayla, the rest of the Wilson's and her entire family.
